Did You Know?
According to the CDC, nearly 60% of teen girls experience persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness, 41% experience poor mental health, and 30% seriously considered attempting suicide.
These percentages are 10-15% higher for LGBTQ+ students.
Black youth are more likely than any other racial/ethnic group to attempt suicide.
The percentage of female students who seriously considered attempting suicide, made a suicide plan, and attempted suicide continues to increase each year.
The 988 Project was created to help raise awareness of the National Youth Mental Health Crisis and resource made available to those suffering in silence or simply do not know where to go for support.
The 988 Project is a workshop that educates tweens and teens about the NEW! National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. Participants learn how it works and create a 988 Affirmation Bracelet for encouragement during a crisis.
9-8-8 is a free and confidential resource available to anyone in need of emotional support in a suicidal crisis or emotional distress no matter how big or small. 9-8-8 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across the U.S., via CALL, TEXT, or CHAT!
When you call, text, or chat, you will be connected with a trained crisis counselor who will listen, work to understand what you are experiencing and how it is affecting you, provide support, and collaborate with you on ways to feel better.
How Can You Give?
988 Affirmation Bracelets are uniquely designed with an encouraging message, a pearl and red heart to symbolize self-love, and the numbers 9-8-8 to symbolize the new National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline.
988 Affirmation Bracelets serve as a daily reminder to those suffering with mental health issues that they are loved, there is hope, and support is ALWAYS available!
